2016-2017 Season

by William Shakespeare

Directed by Stephen Brown-Fried

September 28 – October 23

Northern Stage opens our 20th Anniversary season with a bold and daring production of Shakespeare’s iconic tragedy Macbeth. Full of sound and fury, this modern production reflects our troubled times as it follows Lord and Lady Macbeth on their bloody path to the throne. Shakespeare’s shortest tragedy probes the deepest realms of human nature, finding dark truths that still resonate with our world. Gripping and intense, Macbeth remains one of the most dramatic plays ever written and is a fitting tribute to the Bard in the year 2016, the 400th anniversary of our greatest playwright’s death.

Running time:  Approximately 1 hour 45 minutes with no intermission.
Advisory:  Ages 11 and up for violence and mature subject matter.

Please note: This production contains loud sounds of gunshots and bombings, as well as fog, haze and strobe effects.

An optional 20-minute post-show conversation with the company follows Macbeth performances Oct. 4 – 22.
10 AM or 11 AM performances are student matinees, also available for public sale.
