Youth Ensemble Studio

Northern Stage is excited to announce the fourth season of YES: Youth Ensemble Studio. This program is designed to provide unique access to exceptional theater education for young people in grades 7-12. Company members will participate in group nights at the theater with post show discussions and monthly master classes with cast members and creative teams of the main stage productions. The Youth Ensemble Studio will rehearse and perform three productions throughout the course of the academic school year, culminating in a fully-produced musical on the the main stage at the Barrette Center for the Arts.

There is a membership cost of $500 per student. To ensure an excellent experience for each individual, this program has a maximum capacity of 40 students. Registration is closed at this time.

MASTER CLASSES:

Master Classes are taught by some of the nationally renowned artists participating in Northern Stage’s 2016-2017 season. Topics covered vary from Auditioning and Musical Theater to Masks and Improvisation!


NIGHTS AT THE THEATER:

The entire YES ensemble will be invited to a performance of each show, free of charge. Before the show, YES will enjoy a pizza party. After the show, members of the cast will come out for a discussion of the production and life in the theater!

When research paleontologist Bailey Bones dozes off at work, she is visited by a rockin’ T-Rex, a swingin’ Stegosaurus, a flyin’ Pterodactyl, and a Triceratops who sings the blues. YES has the honor to be invited by the Montshire Museum of Science and the Vermont Institute of Natural Science (VINS), to perform PrehistoROCK! at their dinosaur exhibitions on display this fall. This show will be a silly and fun adventure out into the community!

Twelfth Night

By popular request, YES will to dive into the world of William Shakespeare. Set in the far off land of Illyria, Twelfth Night is a story of life and death, love and rejection, friendship and treachery, cross-dressing and mistaken identity. One of the Bard’s most beloved plays, this comedy is chock-full of colorful characters, hilarious scenes, and breathtaking poetry. After teaching Twelfth Night to the 4th grade class at Dothan Brook School and the 8th grade class at Hartland Elementary as part of Northern Stage’s Shakespeare in the Schools program, Eric Love is excited to direct this play for the Youth Ensemble Studio.

REHEARSALS (3 Weeks): Monday, January 9th – Saturday, January 28th
Mondays – Thursdays: 5:00 – 8:00pm
Saturdays & Sundays: 10:00am – 5:00pm (1 hour lunch break)
Fridays: No Rehearsal

TECH WEEK: Starting Monday, January 23rd rehearsals are 3:30 – 6:30pm

Dear Edwina JR. follows the adventures of plucky advice-giver-extraordinaire, Edwina Spoonapple, as she directs the neighborhood kids in a series of buoyant production numbers for the latest edition of her weekly “Advice-a-Palooza.” Edwina and her friends share wisdom on everything from trying new foods to making new friends through clever, catchy, and poignant songs. Dear Edwina JR. is the perfect “girl power” musical for a new generation.

Featuring a host of supporting roles, Dear Edwina JR. provides a perfect opportunity to showcase the entire Youth Ensemble Studio. Directed and choreographed by Eric Love, this is a musical theater experience you won’t want to miss.
