Post-Graduate Internship

POST-GRADUATE DARTMOUTH INTERNSHIP IN ARTS ADMINISTRATION/PRODUCTION

The fifth annual Dartmouth/Northern Stage internship program at Northern Stage provides an experiential learning opportunity to recent Dartmouth graduates who are interested in pursuing a career in the world of professional theater. The Northern Stage Internship Program is committed to training future generations of artistic leaders and administrators. Applicants should be highly motivated individuals who have acquired basic training in the theater arts. The chosen Dartmouth intern will be an integral member of the staff and can expect to be challenged by a creative process that relies on both ingenuity and collaboration.

Interns at this premiere regional theater work full-time from late-August to mid-May, enjoying benefits that include free housing, a weekly stipend, and networking opportunities with a wide variety of guest artists, both at Northern Stage and Dartmouth College. They leave with a greater knowledge of the theatrical process and the satisfaction of being part of a dedicated theater company where exceptional quality is the end goal.

Based on their interests and skills, the internship will include time working on artistic programming with the Producing Artistic Director, fundraising with the Development team, engaging the community with the Marketing and Education departments, assisting directors in the rehearsal room on our mainstage productions, and working closely with national artists on Northern Stage’s New Works Now festival of new plays.

Testimonials about the Program:

Lillian King was a double major in Theater and Psychology at Dartmouth, and has since gone on to get her Masters in Directing from Boston University. In the 2014-2015 season, Lillian has served as the Assistant Artistic Director and Director of Education at Northern Stage. She directed Blithe Spirit and co-directed Songs for a New World with Artistic Director and Dartmouth Professor, Carol Dunne. Outside of the Upper Valley, Lillian spent several years as a director in New York and was the Assistant Director for Peter and the Starcatcher and Rocky on Broadway. “Being asked to join the staff at Northern Stage this year has been an exciting new chapter in my professional life, and one that has reminded me of and further galvanized my dreams of one day running a
regional theater. I have loved working at a place so integral in a community, that is using art to make the world better and brighter.”
