Northern Stage is thrilled to present Boot Camp, with a mission of nurturing young theater artists by providing personalized and in-depth training and mentorship for high school juniors, seniors, and recent graduates who want to pursue a career in the arts. Created to honor the philanthropic and creative spirits of Helen Gurley Brown and David Brown, Boot Camp is focused on serving young adults who do not currently have the resources to pursue professional-level arts training. Admission to colleges, BFA theater programs, performing arts conservatories, and internship programs is highly competitive, and Boot Camp will seek to level the playing field by preparing students who come from underserved backgrounds to compete at the highest level for continued arts and performance studies.
Run by Northern Stage Director of Education Eric Love, Boot Camp will offer a variety of performance-based opportunities tailored into a personalized program of training for each student’s unique capabilities and aspirations. These opportunities include training and mentorship from professional theater artists on a one-on-one basis, group master classes, and performance opportunities through Northern Stage’s Youth Ensemble Studio and Summer Musical Theater Intensive and the New London Barn Playhouse’s Jr. Intern Company. In addition to performance-based training, Boot Camp will offer training in all areas of theater management and production.
