The educational programs at Northern Stage seek to engage local students of all ages in exploring the world of theater while challenging their beliefs about the world around them. We meet each student at his or her own level and seek to build confidence, knowledge, and a love of theater in a professional environment. We hope that participating in classes and workshops at Northern Stage will help make theater a meaningful part of lives now and in the years to come. The mission of BridgeUP: Theater in the Schools is to increase theater access and learning resources for rural and underserved youth throughout Vermont and New Hampshire through performative programs that bring artists into the classroom, support of curricular needs of underserved schools, and by introducing young people to theater through low‐cost access to professional productions. Special focus is given to areas classified as poor, rural districts and those with families below the poverty line. Districts with limited or no arts funding will be given access to resources that can shape how a student engages with learning and their community.
Northern Stage offers school-time matinees of selected professional productions. Student’s imaginations are nourished under the lights and action of full-length productions at a discounted price. Before the show, students receive a study guide to use at a talk-back with professional actors immediately following the performance. Generously sponsored by the Hypertherm Owner’s Philanthropic Endeavors Foundation and the Couch Family Foundation.
